We implemented a World Bank-funded project in Lao PDR to enhance the capacities of the Lao Statistics Bureau. Through the training activities, government officials gained new skills in collecting, producing and disseminating statistics. These skills were directly put in practice in their daily work, for example in the management of databases, and in the staff organisational development. 

In addition, the project promoted a mutual exchange between Laos and Italy in terms of links to the European Statistical System, data exchange with Eurostat and the dissemination of statistics.

Seeing in practical ways the way the others work and discussing concrete ways to improve the daily processes was highly beneficial for both statistical institutes. The links created between the officials from the two countries expanded beyond the project scope and continue to date.
